Corrections Spending

Despite a decrease in the prisoner population from its peak in 2007, Michigan still incarcerates nearly 44,000 people and spends $2 billion on corrections. CAPPS develops comprehensive data-driven proposals for reducing the prisoner population. Our reform recommendations are consistent with those of other Michigan and national groups and with the strategies used by other states. CAPPS conducts original research and in-depth analyses of corrections spending.
